In order to increase safety, cleanliness and order in public space, the Linz municipal council decided on Wednesday to ban camping around Lake Pichlinger See, from which only the area of the “Ketani” transit point for the Roma and Sinti ethnic group is excluded.
The background to the Linz Freedom Party’s application was the increasing use of areas outside the designated area, such as parking spaces for bathers and the public barbecue area. However, these sections do not have the necessary infrastructure for camping teams in terms of power connections and sanitary facilities, which is why illegal waste disposal and defecation in shrubs and bushes sometimes led to severe hygienic problems.
According to an amendment to the Upper Austrian Tourism Act, it is now possible, among other things, to evict illegal campers from a property if they refuse to leave the area.
An amendment to the existing ordinance on the protection of parks, green spaces and playgrounds was also decided by a majority. This ordinance regulates what is and is not permitted in these urban areas: In principle, these facilities are to be used by everyone in such a way that other visitors are not endangered or unreasonably disturbed and that the facilities are not soiled or damaged.
City Councilor Michael Raml (FP) welcomed the resolutions that would contribute to increasing the quality of life in public spaces.
