The 34-year-old Russian from Germany climbed the Intersport via ferrata – Donnerkogel on Friday in the Gosau municipality. In the area of the Kleiner Donnerkogel, she did not traverse to the left as planned, but for unknown reasons climbed up in the direction of the old via ferrata variant to the summit of the Kleiner Donnerkogel.

The via ferrata had been dismantled a few meters at the junction – but that didn’t seem to prevent her from climbing further. She must have slipped and fallen a few meters below the Kleiner Donnerkogel. After three meters she caught herself with her hands. After that, the 34-year-old could no longer continue the ascent and made an emergency call.

Four men from the Gosau mountain rescue service and an alpine policeman took the cable car to the Zwieselalm and supported the rescue helicopter.

The injured Russian was rescued from the face with a 30-meter fixed rope and flown to the Schwarzach im Pongau hospital.
