The government defines the price of fuels, with international values rising

The government must define next week the fuel prices for the month of September, with rising values in the reference international market and with the state ancap not being able to absorb the cost of freezing rates as happened almost the entire year.

For August, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM) announced the first increase in the prices of the naphtha in more than a year. While the rates of gasoil and supergas they remained frozen.

The current rates for fuels for sale to the public are at 71.39 pesos per liter as the maximum price for sale to the public for Super 95 gasoline. Diesel 50S is at 52.99 pesos.

However, the international context and the financial limitations of ancap as part of the maintenance shutdown of the La Teja refinery, they suggest that prices will once again increase in September.

The price of oil worldwide

In August, the average price of a barrel of Brent oil increased by 7.46%, from $80.11 in July to $86.09. It should be noted that the reference price for each purchase of ancap it is usually determined from the average of Brent crude in the month of unloading.

This week, weak economic data and a strong dollar limited oil gains. For the week, Brent was down less than 1% and WTI lost close to 2%. Last week, both contracts had fallen close to 2%.

Meanwhile, oil futures rose about 1% to a week’s high on Friday as diesel prices rose in USAthe drop in the number of oil rigs and the fire at a refinery in Louisiana.

The end of Ancap’s back

The president of ancap, Alejandro Stipanicicaffirmed that the state oil company is in a delicate situation regarding the planned technical shutdown at the La Teja refinery as of September 4, while the union fancap he continues with his stance of not working overtime.

“Each day that the refinery is stopped costs the country 800,000 dollars,” he said, adding: “Unfortunately the back of ancap it’s over. Any delay that there is in fuels from now on with respect to international prices will go against the assets of ancap”.
