The weather on Sunday did not invite swimming, but the cooler temperatures were perfect for the runners at the second Hague Lies Half Marathon. Sweaty, but at least spared from the rain, the runners arrived at the finish area in Neukirchen near Lambach, where they were greeted by a cheering audience. The OÖN were there as a media partner.

A total of 271 runners took part in the different categories: 171 in the half marathon of around 21 kilometers, 75 in the five-kilometer “Power Run” and 25 in the Charity Walk. “We are incredibly happy that so many people took part,” says Roman Breitwieser from the “Neukirchen Laufen” club, which organized the sporting event for the second time this year.

A wheelchair user was among the half-marathon participants who covered the route from Haag am Hausruck to Neumarkt near Lambach on the former route of the local railway “Haager Lies”. “She was a bit slower than she had hoped, but we gave her a warm welcome at the finish line,” says Breitwieser. The oldest participant was Johann Weber from the LCAV, he was born in 1938.

The course records from the previous year were broken on Sunday: Christoph Mühringer from CLR Sauwald only needed 1:12:04 hours to the finish. Anna Pabinger from ALC Wels was the winner in the women’s race with a time of 1:17:08 hours.

The feedback from the participants was consistently positive, says Breitwieser: “On the one hand, they praised the good organization. On the other hand, the atmosphere at the finish was great because a fairly large audience cheered on the runners and welcomed them.”

Whether the event will take place again next year is currently still unclear, says Breitwieser: “We are currently repositioning ourselves in the club. We will then decide whether the half marathon will also take place in 2024, this fall at the latest.”
