Orsi warned about the lack of clear rules for financing in Uruguay

the mayor of cannelloni and candidate for broad front to the presidency of Uruguay, Yamandu Orsireferred to the investments that arrive in the country and alerted about the possible source of financing that arrives in the country and that “have to do with a form of organized crime”.

At an event organized by We are Uruguay, the community chief of Canelones put his finger on an issue that has been discussed in recent weeks in Uruguay, not only based on events that occurred internationally —such as the different attacks in Ecuador-, but also at the local level: the lack of transparency or clear financing rules, not only for government works and projects at all levels, but also for business investments and even for electoral campaign financing.

“The political parties they have to take care of themselves a little more”, Orsi pointed out before an audience made up of businessmen, government officials and political and social leaders to whom he asked for help: “you have to help us a lot to take care of ourselves because there are forces that are managed from outside and by That the worst that can happen to us is that they find us divided and without being clear that the transparency, the clear rules, are the tools that allow us to continue navigating towards a country we all dream of”.

The presidential candidate for the Broad Front thus referred to the “news of things that were not Uruguayan, that have to do with a form of organized crime and that it hits us”, in reference both to the political crisis in Ecuador —where a presidential candidate was assassinated and many others were attacked by a group associated with drug trafficking that, apparently, would have participated in the financing of their electoral campaigns—; as well as the extensive persecution of the Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastian Marset.

After insisting that the political system owes itself clearer financing rules, Orsi maintained that “hopefully at some point we can specify them” to avoid some dark clouds that appear on the horizon and from which no country is free.

Likewise, and after the event, the mayor referred to the cases of corruption that occurred in the government —with the Astesian case as the clearest example—, and pointed out that this problem “once installed it is very difficult to get rid of it”.

“For corruption there are no vaccines, what there has to be is responsibility, transparency, and I think the lack of transparency is the main sin of the national government”, he pointed out. For Orsi, “when these things begin to happen, mistrust is born and, although they may not be such serious things, people have every right to be suspicious because there is no transparency.”

Exchange delay and Central Railroad

Orsi also referred to the importance that the central railway for the development of the department he directs, and stressed that it will also be essential that his journey can extend from the heart of Uruguay to the north, on the border with Brazil, enabling the possibility of “returning to transit trade”.

“The challenge is great and we are aware of the difficulties faced by many small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, as well as the industry, which has to do with operating costs, and that when you do not have enough back, it is difficult to cope with crises or increased costs. costs in services, as it happens now with the tariffs of the port of Montevideo”, warned the Canarian mayor about what is currently the most expensive port in the region.

“If we add to that the exchange delay in Uruguay, we see the loss of competitiveness as a country, warned Orsi, as the Exporters Union and other union and business chambers regarding the national exchange situation.

Regarding this issue, the Frente Amplio candidate confirmed that the left-wing coalition is analyzing this problem in depth “with people prepared for that purpose, and ideas will emerge from there, since you cannot improvise and you have to be cautious and prudent, because at some point At that moment, decisions were made that harm the country and now we have to see how we correct it”.
