The 69-year-old had taken her family by cable car to the Katrin to walk the “Feuerkögele” circular route – a rather leisurely tour of around 1.6 kilometers. However, the group of five hikers did not get very far. Just ten minutes after starting from the mountain station at 1,400 meters above sea level, the woman stumbled and fell about 30 meters down steep terrain. According to the police, she overturned and hit a tree trunk.

Her companions set the rescue chain in motion. The woman received medical care on site and was then taken by mountain rescue and alpine police on a stretcher to the intermediate landing site of the emergency helicopter at the Katrinalm. A rescue by helicopter directly at the scene of the accident was not possible due to the weather. The woman was flown to the Salzkammergut Clinic in Bad Ischl.
