The Czech extra-league team took a 2-0 lead early on thanks to a double strike from Tomas Chlubna and ex-Salzburg player Brent Harris (both 7 minutes). Budweis captain Milan Gulas made it 3-0 in the 12th minute with a double advantage. Black Wings goalie Thomas Höneckl was powerless in all three goals. In the 16th minute, Graham Knott managed to make it 1:3 against the course of the game after Romig assisted.
In the middle third, Nico Feldner reduced the lead to 2:3 (23rd) after being outnumbered, but Budweis hit back and made it 4:2 (26th) thanks to Lukas Pech. Immediately before that, it seemed as if Linz could equalize the game.
In the final third, the guests stormed again. After that, however, Linz also missed a few good chances before Nico Feldner was able to shorten the lead again (53′). The Black Wings became more offensive and were repeatedly overrun by the resulting spaces. Martin Hanzl (56th), Josef Kolacek (58th) and Milan Gulas (59th/en) scored in the final phase to make it 7:3, which was too high.
Philipp Lukas had mixed up his offensive lines before the game. St-Amant stormed with Collins and Lebler, Feldner with Knott and Romig and Brucker with Stuart and Gaffal. The fourth row was formed by Rappold, Bretschneider and Mitsch.
The next test is on Sunday away in Nuremberg. The next home game is on September 9 against Straubing. Tickets are available online at tickets.blackwings.at.
