At the end of August 2023, 320,759 people were registered as unemployed or in training with the AMS, which is 11,328 more than in the previous year, the Ministry of Labor and Economic Affairs announced in a broadcast on Friday. The unemployment rate rose to 6.1 percent. At the end of August 2022 it was still 5.9 percent.

Overall, however, the labor market is proving to be robust in the face of weaker economic momentum, Labor Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP) commented on the current figures. The development of long-term unemployment, which has almost halved since its peak in April 2021 with 148,436 people at the time and is currently 75,251 people, is particularly pleasing.
