These days it will be decided whether the Gaißau-Hintersee ski area has a future. GH Projektentwicklung GmbH. wants to buy the insolvent mountain railways and bring them back to life. “The contract will be signed shortly,” the insolvency administrator confirmed to the Salzburger Nachrichten. This gives hope that a restart of the small ski area in the southwest of the Vöcklabruck district can succeed.

The ski area is between 750 and 1567 meters above sea level and was badly hit by the snowless winters of the past few years. The company has been in financial difficulties for years. In 2016, an ominous Chinese took over the business, which had to file for bankruptcy in 2017. The next “rescuer” had to go to the bankruptcy court again the following year.

Now there is hope that the new society will create a new start. The four partners are Schnaitmann Holz GmbH from Krispl and Harlander Baumanagement GmbH. from Schwarzach, the Böckl construction equipment rental GmbH. from St. Gilgen and a private person. In the next few days they want to take over the mountain railways for a purchase price in the lower six-digit range. “We definitely want to develop something in the region,” says Managing Director Andreas Schnaitmann.
