Bernd Wiesberger made the red-white-red Ryder Cup debut in 2021. The 44th edition of the biennial event will take place from September 29th to October 1st at the Marco Simone Club near Rome. Europe’s captain Luke Donald awarded Straka one of the six outstanding tickets. “I feel very honored and happy to be there,” said the Austrian in a first reaction during the Captain’s Pick live broadcast.
“It’s everyone’s dream”
With the ticket for the Ryder Cup, a career goal becomes a reality for Straka. “It’s the biggest tournament you can take part in. That’s everyone’s dream. When you’re a kid, you always make that one putt to either win the Masters or the Ryder Cup,” the ÖGV athlete intended underlined the enormous importance of the tournament for him in the APA interview for a few months.
The Viennese, who lives in the USA, had emphatically recommended himself this year, among other things, with his second PGA tournament success and the sensational second place at the British Open, the best major result by an Austrian. Most recently, as in the previous year, he competed in the tour finals of the 30 best PGA players, which he finished in 14th place. As number 23 in the world rankings, Straka is currently the seventh best European.
