The driver of a motor tricycle came off the left side of the road on Wolfgangseestraße (B158) near a gas station, fell over a three meter high embankment and crashed into the opposite slope. Any help came too late for the 60-year-old and his 57-year-old wife, who was sitting on the pillion.
According to the police, the couple was on a tour of the Salzkammergut. It had borrowed the trike on Monday evening. The accident happened on Tuesday afternoon when the two were traveling from Bad Ischl towards Salzburg.
The motor tricycle also crashed into a massive traffic sign, which was thrown with the trike into the opposite slope. The two Lower Austrians fell from the vehicle. Attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful. The couple died at the scene of the accident. Members of the Red Cross Strobl, a general practitioner, the crew of an emergency doctor helicopter and the Strobl volunteer fire brigade were deployed.
