Emanuel Gollob has developed a machine that supports the viewer in doing nothing. The visitor’s brain waves are measured by sensors, and artificial intelligence develops movements of the machine that are coordinated with them. It consists of a robotic arm equipped with 23,000 toothpicks, which wants to attract the viewer’s attention with its movements and thus tempt them to do nothing. “I would like to show how our perception is changing as a result of digitization,” says the student at the Linz Art University. In the exhibition “Extensions of Self”, which can be seen from today at the Francisco Carolinum (FC), curator Eva Fischer explores the relationship between art and artificial intelligence in eleven works. The works are appealing, poetic, but some are difficult to understand.
Kenny Schachter takes a critical look at the art world in the show “Keep Hope Alive”, which also opened yesterday at the FC. The New Yorker’s work ranges from a masturbating elephant to a dinosaur skeleton with Kenny’s head. Funny, ironic, but also chaotically confusing. (hes)
