The 58-year-old only now made the diagnosis public in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
After a routine exam in December 2018, she was first told she had breast cancer, Evangelista said in the interview. According to her own statements, she then had a mastectomy performed, i.e. the removal of all breast tissue. Afterwards she thought she was “ready for life”.
Been in treatment for a year
But in July last year she felt a lump in her breast again. She has now been in treatment again for a year and has endured operations, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Her prognosis is now “good, but not outstanding. Only a handful of people knew about it. I’m just not one of those people who share everything,” Evangelista said. She didn’t want tabloids waiting on her doorstep while she was unwell.
It was only last year that the former top model appeared in public for the first time after a failed cosmetic operation. She was “brutally disfigured” by fat reduction surgery in 2015 and 2016, Evangelista said at the time.
