According to data from the National Administration of Ports (ANP) last month the figure of 64,620 displaced units was reached, thus breaking the maximum monthly mark that was established at 60,416 containers.
The port terminal had already ended the year 2022 with a historic record in terms of container movement, with 1,080,000 TEUS (twenty foot equivalent units) moved in that exercise.
The increase in the amounts for the month of August implies a growth in the accumulated annual measured in TEUS of 4.4% compared to the figures released in 2022.
The activity of the containers in the Montevideo port continues to be sustained and providing good signals, despite the fact that the exports Uruguayans fell in recent months.
During the first semester of 2023, 299,508 containers, or 520,017 TEUS, were mobilized, with May and June being the peak months in activity at the semester level.
According to the president of the ANP, Juan Curbelothe good performance is explained by the commercial and management policies carried out by the decentralized State service, the investment in dredging and the efficient use of specialized areas.
Curbelo points out these points as “key aspects” when it comes to capturing cargo in transit and transshipments, “fundamentally of Paraguayanbut also from the south of Argentina and Brazil“.
The ANP is dredging the access channel to Sola Island, in Carmelo
Today, the ANP announced that for 15 days it is dredging the access channel to Sola Island, in carmel (Cologne), from an investment of 2.2 million dollars.
The works are estimated to end in November, and involve a section of more than 1,000 meters, where a depth of 1.8 meters will be reached.
“It had been many years since dredging had been done and that prevented navigation in good conditions,” said Curbelo, who added that once the work was completed, “connectivity Carmel-Tiger (Argentina) will improve.”
