A salary claim paralyzes Uruguayan football for an indefinite period

The new statute contemplates a 25% increase in the minimum salary of the footballers, of which 12.5% ​​would begin to be paid once the text is approved and the remaining 12.5% ​​in 2024.

The president of the MUFP, Diego Scotti, recalled in conversation with Sport 890 that negotiations for salary improvements began two years ago. “The most important point is the increase in the minimum wage of the B clubs, solutions have been sought and we understand that the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) proposed financing, but we don’t see anything important for it not to be approved,” he said.

Currently, Second Division players have a minimum salary of 29,538 pesos (about 780 dollars), of which 22,000 remain in the hands of the athletes, the union warned.

For months, the AUF has been paying 7,000 to category B footballers, but outside of their salary and he stated: “We did not go on strike before because the AUF gave a bit of a solution at that point, but the footballer receives 22,000 liquid pesos. And given that amount, how do you face the race,” Scotti questioned.
