Our sports clubs thrive on the voluntary commitment of thousands of Upper Austrians. They are usually not in the front row, and yet they are the ones who keep the business running with commitment and empathy. The volunteer award from the OÖNachrichten and the Sportland OÖ brings her to the fore.
A family affair
These include veterans in the club scene, such as Ernst Wolf Dieter, who, as chairman of the Sportunion, has led Leonding’s largest sports club for more than 20 years. Or Gerhard Poglits, who has been associated with ASKÖ Neue Heimat in various functions since 1969 and whose family has made a significant contribution to the club’s tradition. In general, voluntary work for a club is often passed down through generations. Like Daniela Märzinger, who followed in her father’s footsteps and looks back on 20 years on the board of SV Reichraming. Your son is already playing as a junior. Her club is also a family affair for 23-year-old Nina Steinhauser. In addition to her, her grandmother, mother, aunt and cousins are also involved in volunteer work at ASKÖ Wilhering. Some volunteers are real multi-functional people like Hermann Lobmayr, who was on the boards of the ski club, the stick shooting club and the sailing club in Altmünster for decades. Others take on all the tasks that arise in their own club, like Stefan Hochreiter, who has been active at SK Bad Wimsbach for 25 years and takes care of very different things there, from the website to maintaining the pitch.
Among the many volunteers, there are always those who break new ground, such as 32-year-old Simone Rienesl from SV Franckviertel, who has been the first chairwoman of a football club in the Linz area since last year. Or Edith Aicher, who founded the first rugby club for women in the country with friends in Linz.
