The president of United States, Joe Biden, revealed today that he met at the summit of the G20 in India with the prime minister of China, Li Qiang, with whom he spoke about “stability”, in the midst of a moment of strain between the two most important economies in the world.

“I don’t want to contain China, I just want make sure we have a relationship with China that is going from strength to strength and squared, we all know what it is about,” said the US president, according to US television station CBS.

Biden maintained that the agreements with China’s neighboring countries seek to solidify a “stable foundation” in the Indo-Pacific region and that it was necessary not to think so much in “Cold War terms.”

“I want to see China succeed economically, but by following the rules,” he said.

For his part, Chinese President Xi Jinping did not attend the G20 summit in New Delhi, but Biden met with the premier, Li Qiang.
