The Donnerkogel via ferrata in Gosau (Gmunden district) has also achieved great international fame thanks to its impressive “heavenly ladder”. The high demand calls for local mountain rescue services: a 33-year-old from Singapore had to be rescued from the climb on Saturday. The woman, who had never completed a via ferrata before, lost her strength and fell into the via ferrata set – the OÖN reported.
On Monday, the emergency services experienced déjà vu. This time a 46-year-old Polish woman ran out of strength at the first difficult point (C). The woman also complained of cramps in her arms. Like the woman from Singapore, the Polish woman also fell into her via ferrata set. This is also usually associated with a high risk of injury. But the 46-year-old was lucky: she escaped without injuries.
Brought to the valley by helicopter
At 10:27 a.m. – two hours after the woman started the tour from the Zwieselalm with seven compatriots – she made an emergency call. Mountain rescuers, an alpine police officer and the police helicopter rescued the 46-year-old from the via ferrata at an altitude of 1,840 meters. The Polish woman was flown with a rope to the shore of the Vorderen Gosausee. As planned, her six friends climbed the via ferrata to the summit of Donnerkogel.
Very difficult via ferrata
The Intersport via ferrata on the Großer Donnerkogel is rated at difficulty C/D (difficult to very difficult). The group from Poland took the Gosaukammbahn to the Zwieselalm and hiked for about half an hour to the start of the via ferrata. After about a hundred meters of climbing, the 46-year-old lost her strength, according to the police report.
