This is what the new water rescue base at Lake Pichlinger looks like

Everything isn’t finished yet, but that couldn’t dampen the joy about the new base of Linz AG and water rescue at Lake Pichlinger. Linz AG invested 650,000 euros in the new building. Renovating the old building from the early 1970s would not have paid off, says Linz AG General Director Erich Haider. The new wooden building is not only modern, it also offers significantly more space. As well as overseeing the lake, Linz AG and water rescue also share the building, 82.16 square meters for the Linz AG employees, 143.42 square meters for the larger water rescue team. There are parking spaces for the water rescue boat and the Linz AG mowing boat. “For those who use the building, in addition to functionality, what counts is the careful view of the lake. The almost perfect view of the swimming lake from the terrace makes the work of our lake staff and volunteer water rescue easier,” says Haider.

The base is occupied all year round

The Linz AG team is on site all year round and, especially during the bathing season, also acts as a lake supervisor or in an emergency. Outside the bathing season, the team takes care of the open public sanitary facilities at the lake. The Pichling water rescue service ensures the safety of bathers at the lake on weekends during the bathing season. Among the volunteers at the base are rescue divers, who will in future also have the appropriate infrastructure in the new building and on the facade.

Joy among the volunteers

“People who work on a voluntary basis should have good conditions,” says Mayor Klaus Luger (SP). The Pichling water rescue team has 37 active members, plus the youth group. Three to four colleagues are on duty per shift, especially on weekends. One of them is Toni Eder: “We are really happy about the new base, so we can once again guarantee the safety of Linz’s citizens.” The rooms, the options for alerting – everything is up to date. “It’s also a good place to be, especially for us volunteers it’s a pleasure to do our work at a base like this,” says Eder.

Ambitious schedule

The construction wasn’t easy. In May, the water level of Lake Pichlinger was so high that a dam had to be built to pour the foundation. In addition, there were the current usual problems with the availability of professionals and delivery difficulties. For example, the kitchen won’t arrive until next week, and the staircase isn’t quite finished yet, although it can already be accessed. The building is currently in partial operation. During the construction work, mobile container rooms were available for the water rescue team and Linz AG’s operating staff. Operations and rescue operations were guaranteed throughout.
