Apple introduced the new iPhone 15

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus

As expected, the standard model now also has the “Dynamic Island”. This was reserved for the Pro version of the iPhone 14. The OLED display is protected by a robust “ceramic shield”. The display sizes remain unaffected. The standard model has a 6.1-inch display, while the Plus version still has a 6.7-inch screen. The brightness reaches 1600 nits, even up to 2000 nits in sunlight. That’s twice as much as its predecessor.

The iPhone 15 inherits another feature from the iPhone 14 Pro: the 48 MP main camera. The resolution of the photo doubles from 12 to 24 megapixels. What’s also new is that portrait mode activates itself thanks to AI. The new A16 chip was installed inside the device. The focus of an image can now be adjusted retrospectively. The front camera should be able to cope better with strong contrast differences thanks to the TrueDepth sensor and “Smart HDR”.

The ultra-wideband chip has also been further developed for better navigation over short distances. Another new feature is a function that isolates the voice when making calls in noisy environments, which is intended to improve intelligibility. As expected, USB-C replaces the Lightning port. This has now become obsolete on the iPhone.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max

The iPhone 15 Pro has the thinnest bezels ever on an iPhone. Titanium is now used as the material, which also reduces the weight. So aluminum has had its day here.

As with the standard model, the “Ceramic Shield” is used. The display sizes remain unchanged at 6.1 (iPhone 15 Pro) and 6.7 inches (iPhone 15 Pro Max). The back part of the housing can now be removed more easily, which should make repairs easier overall. A new action button on the edge replaces the well-known silent switch. The new button can now be individually assigned functions.

The A17 Pro is installed as the chip. USB-C also replaces the Lightning port here, but in contrast to the standard model, USB 3 speeds are supported here. The main sensor of the camera still has 48 megapixels. However, this should have better light sensitivity and more detail. The telephoto camera now enables a threefold optical zoom, and on the iPhone Pro Max even a fivefold optical zoom.

Apple Watch Series 9

There is a new chip in the Apple Watch Series 9, the Apple Silicon S9. This is said to be 30 percent faster than the S8 in the previous model. The battery life should still be one day, by which Apple – as usual – means 18 hours. The always-on Retina display now reaches up to 2000 nits brightness. At the other end of the spectrum, brightness can be reduced to a nit.

Siri requests are now processed directly on the device. Firstly, this should work faster and secondly, eliminate the problem of requests failing if the internet connection is poor. The Siri Health function now answers additional questions, such as: “How did I sleep last night?”

Apple is introducing a feature called “Doubletap” to the Watch. When users quickly tap their index finger and thumb together twice, various functions are carried out. For example, calls can be accepted or music can be played. Typing is recorded via the pulse sensor.

Apple Watch Ultra 2

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 also receives the Duobletap feature, the brightness can reach up to 3000 nits.
According to Apple, a new watch face called Modular Ultra shows more information at once than any other watch. The battery life is 36 hours, in energy saving mode it is up to 72 hours.
