Storms hit Tyrol: regional train from Mure hit

A regional train traveling from Scharnitz towards Seefeld was hit and partially enclosed by the mudflow. Four passengers and the train driver had to be evacuated from the railcar by the Seefeld fire department, the Tyrol police said early on Wednesday. There was also damage in the Alpbachtal and Zillertal.

The passengers and the train driver were uninjured in the incident in Seefeld. The B177 Seefelder Straße, which was relocated from the Mure, is closed from Seefeld Nord to the B177/L75 intersection in the Gießenbach area until further notice. Local diversion measures have been put in place. The state of Tyrol announced that the situation should be assessed by the state geology department on Wednesday morning. The Seefeld and Scharnitz fire departments were on duty with 45 men, rescue with operations manager, the ÖBB operations manager, ÖBB operations coordinator, the Zirl road maintenance department and six police patrols.

In Reith im Alpbachtal (Kufstein district), several trees were uprooted by the storm with strong gusts of wind and fell onto the municipal road and the property of a residential building. A car parked near the house was damaged by a fallen tree. Nobody got hurt. The fire department was on duty with three vehicles and 20 people.

In the Zillertal, a tree fell into a power pole as a result of the storm. Part of the power line was torn down, but there was no fire due to sparks. The electricity was immediately switched off. Here too, no one was injured; the fire department was in action in Hart im Zillertal (Schwaz district) with three vehicles and 25 people, as well as two workers from the electricity operator and the police.
