Linz: Burglar flees from the police at 120 km/h

A 22-year-old Kosovan from Linz raced through Linz in his car at speeds of up to 120 km/h on Sunday afternoon while fleeing the police.

The previous story: The 22-year-old had a relationship with a 38-year-old compatriot who was banned from entering and staying in the Schengen area, who is said to have threatened his ex-wife with a pistol and who was being investigated on suspicion of drug trafficking committed a company burglary in Leonding.

The two committed the burglary together and then drove to Mühlbach on Lunzerstrasse, where they broke open the safe and burned documents from the safe that they did not need. A passer-by saw the two of them. When they noticed the woman, the two men fled. However, the woman and her partner found their car and called the police.

Police officer on his way home noticed getaway car

A large-scale manhunt was launched across the entire city – with the crucial tip coming from a police officer who was on his way home after work when he saw the getaway car and informed his colleagues.

The 22-year-old made a daring escape at speeds of 120 km/h along Turmstrasse – Wiener Strasse towards Muldenstrasse, to the Bindermichl roundabout and back to Muldenstrasse, the police report. He raced towards police patrols and barriers and posed a serious threat to the officers, reports a police spokeswoman.

Only a roadblock on Wankmüllerhofstrasse was able to stop the 22-year-old’s wild driving maneuvers. There he tried to avoid the police barrier – and then crashed into a traffic sign.

38-year-old confessed to further crimes

At 3:15 p.m., the 38-year-old, against whom there was an arrest order, and the 22-year-old were arrested. After being taken to the Linz police detention center, the 38-year-old confessed during questioning to numerous other burglaries, thefts, suppression of documents in several cases, damage to property and multiple unauthorized use of vehicles.

Parts of the burglary loot from Sunday as well as other stolen goods were recovered from the getaway car. It was also discovered that the 38-year-old repeatedly “borrowed” a car that was parked unlocked in Wels for his crimes and then returned it with fuel. He also admitted to dealing with at least 250 grams of crystal meth for around two and a half months.

The 22-year-old, who no longer has a driver’s license because it has already been revoked – and who also drove the getaway car under the influence of drugs and did not confess – is being charged, among other things, with resisting state authority.
