After investigations by the Directorate of State Security and Intelligence (DSN) and the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Combating Terrorism (LVT), the public prosecutor’s office ordered a house search and the immediate arrest of the suspect on suspicion of membership in a terrorist organization. He is said to have become radicalized on the Internet.
“This case once again shows the concrete danger that is currently posed by Islamist extremism,” said the Director General of Public Security, Franz Ruf, in a press release. “Easily accessible radicalization on the Internet means that potential perpetrators are becoming younger and younger and, despite their young age, do not shy away from attacks.”
Plans expressed in chat group
In the chat group, the young person initially assured other participants that he was actually prepared to carry out an attack. Later, however, he announced to the group that he would not be doing this after all. During his interrogation, he appeared to be a strict believer and stated that he had planned an attack in Vienna. He would have accepted the risk of dying himself and cited the attackers in Vienna, Berlin and France as role models, according to the Interior Ministry.
During the house search, paper stencils of the IS logo as well as a combat knife and various data carriers were seized. When he was arrested, the young person was carrying the knife, which was also visible in the picture in the chat group.
