It was a day of records for the Upper Austria cycling lobby: never before have so many cyclists taken part in the activities as part of the European Mobility Week. Around 1,000 took part in the “Sternradeln” from four surrounding communities to Linz, and there were significantly more in the subsequent cycling parade through the state capital. The city of Linz’s “Festival of Mobility” also took place on the main square. The main requirement is to maintain a distance of 1.5 meters when overtaking bicycles.

Cycling lobby is annoyed by the ban
But despite the records, the cycling lobby complains about a “bitter downer”. Actually, like in previous years, they wanted to drive over the Voest Bridge, but this year this was not approved for safety reasons. Particularly annoying: Although the meeting with the police took place on September 1st, according to the bike lobby, the ban was only received on the 14th – too late to register a new route. If the Climate Alliance hadn’t taken this precaution, it would have been a standing game instead of the record. The cycling lobby has therefore announced legal consequences.
