The military authorities of USA confirmed the discovery of the remains of the F-35 fighter plane which disappeared on Sunday while flying over South Carolina. The aircraft was found destroyed in the Indiantown area of Williamsburg County.
“US military personnel, in close coordination with local authorities, have located a debris field in Williamsburg County, two hours northeast of Joint Base Charleston”reported in a statement the Public Relations Office of the Joint Base Charleston.
Additionally, they asked community members “Avoid the area while the recovery team secures the debris field.”
The incident is under investigation, they added, so they did not provide additional details “to preserve the integrity of the investigation process.”
“We would like to thank all of our mission partners, as well as local, county and state authorities, for their dedication and support during the search and during the transition to the recovery phase,” the statement added.
The request of the US Government
In the last hours, the U.S. government had alerted the citizens of the area near Charleston, South Carolinafor him lost F-35 plane. It was launched from the Air Force Base from that city, but after a few minutes, the transponder, which normally helps locate the aircraft, was not working.
He F-35B Lightning II -valued at more than US$90 million and used by the United States military – ejected its pilot safely, but does not emit signals so they can find where he is. Thus, Jeremy Hugginsspokesperson for the Air Force Base assured that they made a “public call asking for help”.
On social networks, the entity asked the public to they would get in touch with the base if anyone had information about the location of the aircraft after the incident. “The aircraft is stealthyso it has different coatings and designs that make it more difficult to detect than a normal aircraft,” he explained.
Antecedent
It is not the first time that a fighter plane disappears. In 1989, the pilot of a Soviet MiG-23 ejected over Poland and the plane continued flying on autopilot until it crashed in Belgium, more than 900 kilometers away.
The disappearance of the F-35 filled the internet with messages of stupor.
“How the hell do you lose an F-35? How is it possible that there is no tracking device and the public is being asked to find a plane and turn it over?”commented Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace.
Some Internet users published manipulated photographs with false wanted notices hanging on trees: “F-35 missing. $500 reward,” one of them reads.
Others made fun of the situation, ironically saying that the president of Ukraine has it, Volodymyr Zelensky, who has been asking for this type of aircraft for months for the war he has been waging against Russia since Russian troops invaded his country.
