Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo ratified Uruguay’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda

The minister of External relationships (MRREE), Francisco Bustilloratified the commitment of Uruguay with the 2030 Agenda within the framework of the Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) celebrated in USA.

The chancellor stated, last Monday the 18th, that Uruguay incorporated the values ​​of sustainability in its national institutions, and that generated renewing public policies on environmental matters, which aim at food, energy and industrial decarbonization, taxes, as well as the use of water and soil.

In that line, Bustillo pointed out that current global challenges require renewed political commitment, as well as the strengthening of alliances to promote concrete and inclusive actions towards sustainable development, actions that cooled down due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Likewise, the leader highlighted the fact that when the Agenda 2030the global scenario was different from the current one, since new challenges were added to the problems of 2015, such as technological development, health emergencies and economic uncertainty.

The diplomat took the opportunity to make it known that Uruguay is concerned about the low percentage of compliance with the SDG by other nations, something that puts the entire Agenda 2030 at risk.

“The Government understands that achieving the necessary transformations to achieve sustainable development requires the decisive participation of the financial system,” he stated. Bustillo.
