A fire broke out in the Bösendorfer piano factory in Wiener Neustadt on Wednesday night. Four fire departments with almost 100 helpers went out to extinguish the fire. An outbuilding used as an archive was affected. The flames were under control around 1 a.m. The property burned down to the ground, but the production building was protected. Re-extinguishing work should be completed in the morning. According to the fire department, no one was injured.
The fire department was called shortly after 10:30 p.m. Several emergency calls from residents arrived at the same time as the company’s fire alarm system’s automatic alarm. “Even from a distance you could see that there was a full fire in a building,” said commander and operations manager Christian Pfeiffer from the FF Wiener Neustadt to the APA on Wednesday morning. “As this is an archive, the fire progressed quickly due to the huge amounts of paper.” According to the information, cardboard boxes were also stored in the property.

A comprehensive fire-fighting attack was carried out with several teams using heavy respiratory protection. The parts had to be removed by the fire department in order to be able to carry out extinguishing work and search for embers, the FF Wiener Neustadt said in a press release.
Once the flames were under control, the fire material had to be removed from the property using a telescopic handler. “The single-story building could no longer be saved,” said Pfeiffer. The affected property is a “total loss”. An attack on the company’s main building was prevented. Police patrols and several Red Cross vehicles were also deployed. The cause of the fire was the subject of a police investigation.
