Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) gains a little, SPÖ leader Andreas Babler and FPÖ chairman Herbert Kickl lose a little and Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) and NEOS chairwoman Beate Meinl-Reisinger stagnate.
The winner of this period is Social Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens), who gained seven points and is now in positive territory – with plus three. Not many of the federal politicians interviewed manage to do this. At the top is Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen with plus 20 (minus 2 compared to June) ahead of Second National Council President Doris Bures (SPÖ), whose balance is plus four. Behind them, the most popular members of the government are Rauch and Justice Minister Alma Zadic (Greens). From the ÖVP, only Economics Minister Martin Kocher is in positive territory with plus 2. With an increase of six points, Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP) has worked his way to minus one.
Of the party leaders, Meinl-Reisinger still has the best trust ratings with minus 3. Kogler and Babler follow with minus 18, with the latter losing at least four points, which OGM boss Wolfgang Bachmayer interprets as an expression of increasing polarization. Karl Nehammer gains two points, but is only in fourth place with minus 20. Kickl, who falls from minus 43 to minus 45, is at the bottom of the list among the party leaders. After all, almost everyone has an opinion about the FPÖ leader. 98 percent gave an assessment. At the other end of the scale is Tourism State Secretary Susanne Kraus-Winkler (ÖVP), about whom only 24 percent of those surveyed have an opinion.
Bottom overall is National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP) with minus 53. The least confident among those in power is Education Minister Martin Polaschek (ÖVP), who lost eight points and is now at minus 31. Bachmayer sees this slump in connection with the discussion about deficiencies in schools after the holidays. He interprets Rauch’s rise as saying that he successfully combines health and social issues and leaves the arguments in the medical profession to others. Brunner, in turn, benefits from his prudent approach to the negotiations on financial equalization.
