In the second quarter of the year, 9,850 were born in the country companies in territory Uruguayan, which means an increase of 8.58% compared to the previous quarter, according to the latest report on company demographics prepared by the INE.

In total, there are 183,830 companies, compared to the 182,464 that the statistical organization had surveyed in the first quarter of 2023. In fact, the increase in firms on a year-on-year basis also gives a positive variation, although in the order of 3.28% compared with the second quarter of 2022.

On the other hand, the amount of companies that closed reached 6,231 in the April-June period, a decrease of 13.42% compared to the previous quarterly data, but an increase of 18.3% if the comparison is analyzed at an annual level.

In turn, according to the report of the INE, 9,918 companies began layoffs, which represents an increase of 8.06% compared to the previous figure and a variation of 5.39% year-on-year. Finally, among the companies There were 1,434 firms that restarted their activity between April and June, a variation of 17.64% compared to the first quarter, but a decrease of 11.37% year-on-year.

12,019 jobs were created

On the other hand, the report revealed that 12,019 jobs were created in the second quarter job, 0.61% more than the 11,946 at the beginning of the year, but an improvement of 2.7% when compared year-on-year.

In contrast, there were 8,641 jobs that were lost in the same period, 20.66% less than in the first quarter, but 21% more than in April-June 2022. In parallel, 15,117 workers were laid off and 2,083 restarted their jobs.
