Volleyball at the Bundesliga level is being offered twice this year in the Perg district: In addition to the Mühlviertel Volleys women’s team, a men’s team from the Mühlviertel is finally represented in Austria’s second highest league this year. After Supervolley Upper Austria withdrew from the league, the Mühlviertel Volleys had the opportunity to take over the vacant league place. The Mühlviertel team will play their first rallies in the second Bundesliga on Saturday at St. Pölten. On Sunday we continue to Vienna for the cup game against Union VV Döbling.
While the men’s first priority will be to gain experience, the women of the Lydia Trauner/Wolfgang Stockreiter coaching team will start the new season as the reigning second division champions and therefore as the hunted. Unlike in previous years, the regular squad remains unchanged with a few exceptions. Middle blocker Eszter Rohodi ended her volleyball career. New to the team are the young players Lisa Aichinger as second setter, Helene Brunner as outside attacker, Marlene Gaßner as middle blocker and middle blocker Selina Pilz from the state league team. The service ball machine purchased by the club was used for the first time during summer training.
The first game kicks off on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) against Innsbruck in the Donauwell-Arena Perg. “We are satisfied with the preparation time. The results of the test matches in particular make me positive,” says sports director Josef Trauner, hoping for a points win at the start of the season.
