Last Sunday, goalkeeper Josh Vickers made public the loss of his beloved wife Laura. She fought cancer for a long time, but now lost the fight of her life. “I’ve written and discarded this so many times and I still can’t find the right words and don’t know if I ever will,” writes the 27-year-old in a moving post on Instagram. “On Tuesday evening my wife lost her long battle with cancer.”
“Laura is the strongest, bravest and most loving person I have ever met. Despite everything she went through, she continued to smile and never let anything dampen her good spirits or interfere with the creation of a lifetime of memories. We have been through some tough ones “We cried, laughed and danced at times,” Vickers continues. “I will cherish every moment we spent together, from the first meeting to the peaceful parting. I know you will look down on me and continue to inspire me every day. I love you forever.”
Josh Vickers began his career at Arsenal FC. The goalkeeper was in the Gunners’ professional squad, but it wasn’t enough to play in the Premier League. The Englishman continued his career in the second and third leagues, and the 27-year-old currently plays for the traditional club Derby County in League One.
