Gérard Depardieu received 4 million euros for his art collection. At the two-day auction, which ended on Wednesday in Paris, 95 percent of the lots changed hands, the Ader auction house said. Among other things, a work by Alexander Calder was auctioned for 92,160 euros and a sculpture by Auguste Rodin for 83,200 euros.
The auction house explained that the proceeds, which were originally estimated at 3 to 5 million euros, met the actor’s expectations.
He only kept one bronze
In the end, Depardieu did not part with the bronze “L’homme qui marche” by Germaine Richier, which was estimated to be worth between 500,000 and 800,000 euros. The 250 works offered for sale included paintings and drawings by Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Fernand Léger, among others. The works owned by the actor formed a real ensemble that resembled him, the auction catalog said.
Depardieu has acted in around 200 films. The 74-year-old was recently in the headlines because of allegations of sexual assault by several women. The French justice system has been investigating him since the end of December 2020 for alleged rape. He himself has rejected the allegations.
