Tourist solidarity on the Dachstein should bring more guests

The tourism experts in the inner Salzkammergut would like to record more than a million overnight stays for the first time next winter. Last winter they were just below the historical high.

Three partners, one website

But a solidarity across national borders gives reason for optimism. The Dachstein-Salzkammergut tourism association, the Dachstein West ski area and the Tennengau guest service on the Salzburg side of the G Schütt Pass invested together this year in the renovation of the website www.dachstein.at. Those interested will not only find information about the ski area, but also about freely available rooms in the shared region. “This means you can view the guesthouse or hotel with just one click and book it on the right date,” says Anton Kaufmann, chairman of the Tennengau guest service. “There are around 350 businesses on board, from family-run guesthouses to luxurious five-star hotels.” The new website has been online since Monday. “Having to search on several websites and constantly switch back and forth when planning your vacation is a thing of the past,” says Christian Schirlbauer, tourism director in the inner Salzkammergut.

Tennengau hopes to reach 500,000 overnight stays next winter by making its online presence more attractive. Together with the partners in Upper Austria, the goal is to reach a record 1.5 million overnight stays.

The tourism experts in Upper Austria and Salzburg are convinced that holidaymakers are not interested in national borders – the guests are interested in the Dachstein. Those responsible are therefore planning to intensify their cooperation beyond the joint website.

Tourism is optimistic about the winter season. The start in the Dachstein West ski area is initially planned for December 8th. “Last winter we almost reached pre-Corona levels again in terms of overnight stays,” says tourism director Schirlbauer. “The summer was also very positive. We now have every reason to be optimistic.”
