Young dad Andreas Kristler opened the shooting festival in the 2nd minute with the goal to make it 1-0. Less than four minutes later, the target fidgeted again behind Graz goalie Nicolas Wieser. Linz remained dominant, Graz was only able to create danger in front of Linz’s defense at certain points. “They had a few chances in the first third. And if they had capitalized on them, it could have given the game a different dynamic,” said goalie Thomas Höneckl later after his shutout. “We played a solid game for large parts of the game today – offensively, defensively and in the neutral zone. And that’s what makes the difference in the end.” The picture shouldn’t change over the course of the evening.

Linz increased their lead to 4-0 with two goals from top scorer Graham Knott in the middle period (27th, 34th). The mood in the stands had long since switched to party mode. The wave went through the hall, including choirs of “Oh, how beautiful it is.” Who’s surprised? After all, it was the eleventh game in a row in which Linz was able to score. This takes on similar characteristics to the second championship season, when the Black Wings were able to score points in 14 consecutive games between round four and round 17. We managed to climb to fourth place in the table.

The fifth and sixth goals came in the final third, when Linz’s pace was off and the Grazers’ uncertainty was evident. Shawn St-Amant (45th) and Sean Collins (51st) were allowed to be added to the shooting list. Goals will probably also be needed on Friday when Linz visits Villach. Former champion maker Rob Daum’s team was knocked off the table’s throne on Wednesday, but is willing to get back there. We report in the live ticker.
