Parliament investigates whether there was a hack into legislators’ emails

The deputies of the Colorado Party, Felipe Schipani and Sebastián Sanguinetti, filed the presentation before Computer Crimes.

He Parliament ordered an emergency investigation to determine if there was a leak of legislators’ emails, when it emerged that an internet page offered to sell 100 gigabytes of content linked to emails sent and received by deputies and senators of the different parties, in a fact of cybercrime.

The deputies of Colorado Party, Felipe Schipani and Sebastian Sanguinetti, filed a complaint with Cybercrime against the Breach Forums page, to investigate the participation of hackers who could have made public information known.

In the publication of that website, a user published a message in which he expressed: “Hello guys, complete database of [email protected] [ Uruguay ] all parliamentarians.” There he threatens to have content from the legislators, his advisors and even the vice president Beatriz Argimón.

“It is an extremely serious issue,” said Felipe Schipani

“I always suspected that the supporting operating system was not very secure, but this is an extremely serious issue,” he said. Schipani in dialogue with FM Azul, while he assured that “it has to be investigated in depth and urgently.”

On the other hand, the Colorado legislator maintained that “the institutional email is the channel through which citizens and people who want to contact the legislators write to us” and said: “We receive many complaints and documents.”

For all this, he considered that “violating the content is a very important impact on parliamentary jurisdiction” and considered that “the privacy of many people is being violated”, referring to the individuals who sent emails to deputies and senators from different parties.

Schipani maintained that “there are criminal organizations that are dedicated to this” and recalled that “they have even hacked the website of the White House”. For all this, he asked “to put emphasis on reinforcing security and adding companies that provide us with guarantees. “We can’t be so exposed.”
