The president of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Poureceives this Friday at the residence of Suárez and Reyes his peers from Argentina, Alberto Fernandezand of Paraguay, Santiago Griefto start working on what will be the inauguration of the World Cup 2030.
The leaders, who will share a lunch of camaraderie, will meet for the first time since FIFA confirmed that the 2030 World Cup will have three opening matches in Montevideo, Buenos Aires and Assumption. The rest of the sporting event will take place in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
The Centenario stadium will host the first match of that World Cup, commemorating the hundred years of the first World Cup in which Uruguay became champion.
The president of Conmebol, the Paraguayan, will also participate in the meeting. Alejandro Dominguezand ministers or secretaries of sport from the three countries.
Sebastián Bauzá, national secretary of Sports, commented that Lacalle Pou, Fernández and Peña are going to discuss the scheme of the inaugural matches. “We are going to work as a block, together, to see if we can achieve more things for Conmebol,” he told Subrayado.
After lunch at the residence of Suárez and Reyes, the authorities will travel to Maldonadowhere an event will be held to receive the delegations that will play the final of the South American CupSaturday.
When will the 2030 World Cup match be played in Uruguay?
The three matches in South American territory of the 2030 World Cup will be played on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9, 2030, kicking off the World Cup for the Uruguayan, Argentine and Paraguayan teams; while the official opening in Europe and Africa—Spain, Portugal and Morocco, which will be the official headquarters—will be between Thursday, June 13 and Friday, June 14.
Then, the South American teams will play again on Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22 for the second date of the tournament.
