The police explain the spontaneous combustion as follows: The fermentation of certain materials stored there, including waste wood, bark and mud, led to self-heating, and chemical processes ultimately caused the material to self-ignite.
110 firefighters on duty
Seven fire departments tried to bring 3,000 tons of heated fuel under control on Friday. The fuel had to be chopped up and then extinguished to prevent renewed spontaneous combustion. 110 firefighters and women were busy extinguishing the fire throughout the day. 20 vehicles were on site. According to police, the work will continue until Saturday.
The B144 Gmundener Straße was temporarily difficult to pass in the area of the incident, and the fire brigade took turns directing traffic past.
