Drunk and driving more than twice as fast as the speed limit, a 43-year-old from Wels was driving his car towards the city center on Salzburgerstraße shortly after midnight on Saturday. In the local area, where a maximum of 50 km/h would actually be allowed, the measuring device of a Wels police patrol showed 115 km/h. But that’s not all: the breathalyzer test also showed a value that was far too high: the speeder had a blood alcohol level of 1.84. He has temporarily lost his driver’s license, the police said on Saturday.
At 112 km/h on the B1
The 22-year-old from the Steyr-Land district got behind the wheel of his car late on Friday evening, although not impaired by alcohol, but by drugs. A police patrol near Traun (Linz-Land district) became aware of him at around 11:45 p.m. because he was racing along the B1 at 112 km/h. The officers gave chase and the driver continued to accelerate. A red light stopped him at the Trauner intersection.
Joints thrown on street
During the check, it quickly became clear why the 22-year-old would have preferred nothing to do with the police: there was a clear smell of cannabis coming from his car, and several symptoms indicated that he was suffering from addiction. He also threw two joints onto the road next to a police officer, police said on Saturday afternoon. A rapid urine test at the police station in Traun was positive for AMP and THC. The young man refused a clinical examination, but he still had to hand over his driver’s license.
