Several road users reported a wrong-way driver on the motorway in the Wels area on Sunday around 6:35 p.m. on the emergency call. Specifically, a silver car with Romanian license plates was mentioned. A civilian patrol then began the journey towards Suben. Finally, the 80-year-old Romanian citizen was stopped and checked in the Haag am Hausruck area.
He immediately admitted that he had gotten lost on the A25 at the Wels junction and had mistakenly taken the A8 towards Voralpenkreuz. He noticed the mistake while still on the ramp, turned his car around, drove back towards the A25 in the overtaking lane and then continued his journey towards Suben. He simply said that nothing had happened. The driver’s driver’s license was temporarily taken away, he was prohibited from continuing to drive and a security deposit was required.
