The struggle for a balanced budget has been preoccupying Freistadt city politics for several weeks. Now the Freedom Councilor Harald Schuh is pushing forward with a proposal that also makes politicians responsible: “The current 37 local councilors at a local council meeting could be reduced to 19 through a common agreement between all parliamentary groups,” explains the FPÖ politician. This idea was born and fleshed out within the group when assessing savings options.
“This voluntary reduction in size has already taken place for a few meetings during the Corona crisis. So it is tried and tested and legal. This would save the city around 10,000 euros per year for a total of five meetings,” says Schuh. However, he would like to limit this measure until the financial conditions for the municipality have improved again: “I will try to win the other parliamentary groups over to this proposal at the next budget meeting.”
