The Wels public prosecutor’s office has requested pretrial detention for the 66-year-old who is said to have tried to stab his wife in Laakirchen on Monday morning. According to a spokeswoman, the public prosecutor’s office assumes there was conditional intent and has initiated an investigation into suspicion of murder.
During questioning, the suspect said he wanted to hurt the 60-year-old, but also accepted her death. The attack was preceded by an argument between the man and his wife, which revolved around a dispute between the 66-year-old and his father-in-law.

His wife is said to have asked him to resolve the conflict, otherwise he could move out of their shared apartment, the public prosecutor’s spokeswoman quoted the APA from the interrogation protocol.
Wife could not be interviewed yet
The 66-year-old then wanted to commit suicide, but called emergency services. He told his wife about his intentions, and she probably replied that he shouldn’t put so much pressure on her. He then thought to himself, “If you hurt me like that, I’ll hurt you too.” He went into the kitchen, got a knife and, according to his memory, stabbed him two or three times. The report lists five stitches, including in the chest area, said the spokeswoman.
The seriously injured man managed to call her brother, who then alerted emergency services. The 60-year-old was taken to hospital and underwent surgery, but her life is not in danger. She has not yet been able to be questioned, the public prosecutor’s office said in response to OÖN’s request.
