On November 2nd, 2020, a 20-year-old Islamist opened fire near Desider-Friedmann-Platz shortly before 8 p.m. and ran, among other places, through Vienna’s Seitenstättengasse and the “Bermuda Triangle”, a popular nightlife district where many people spent the last evening before an impending lockdown. He killed four people and injured more than 20 others, some seriously, before he was stopped after nine minutes with a fatal shot by an officer from the WEGA special unit.
