It was luck that Christoph Pesendorfer came to Traunstein. Not because the manager of the fireplace workshop in Roitham couldn’t physically do it.
But because it will now also be comfortably warm in the second restaurant of the Traunsteinhaus in the future. “A friend of mine looks after the hut as a chimney sweep and asked me if I would like to fly with them,” he says. Pesendorfer helped out and immediately received an order himself. Because hut owner Roman Leithner wanted to replace the old tiled stove, which hardly gave off any heat, Pesendorfer had to do an extraordinary amount of work last weekend.
With around 30 centimeters of fresh snow on the plateau, the 270 kilogram stove was flown up the mountain and made ready for heating by Pesendorfer and an employee – on a voluntary basis. Because the reward for the work was the “outstanding day up there” anyway.
The table stove in a rustic design with natural stone cladding now fits the Traunstein better. You can also cook well on the 10 kW stove, and at least your clothes and shoes will definitely get dry. It was important to the nature lovers who lease the hut at 1,580 meters above sea level that the new stove was completed before winter.
However, it will not be used until next year: the Nature Friends House has also been in hibernation since Sunday – until April 28, 2024.
