Shortly after midday on Tuesday, a 29-year-old was driving on the Schlierbacher Landesstraße from Kremsmünster towards Wartberg an der Krems when a 64-year-old driver stopped in front of her near Diepersdorf after turning left. The 29-year-old was able to stop in time – but the following drivers were no longer able to do so: a 77-year-old following behind overlooked the 29-year-old’s stationary car and crashed into the rear.

A similar thing may have happened to a 52-year-old woman who, according to the police, apparently also noticed the cars that were already stationary or involved in an accident too late. She in turn rammed the 77-year-old’s vehicle and then tore her car, which then came to a stop between an embankment and a ditch.

The impact also caused the 77-year-old’s car to turn and come to a stop in the opposite direction.
The two women involved and the 29-year-old’s 7-year-old son were taken to Kirchdorf Hospital with injuries of an unspecified degree. The 77-year-old had to be flown to Gmunden hospital in the “Martin 3” rescue helicopter.

The cars were seriously damaged or even totaled. The L554 was closed for around an hour while the clean-up work took place.
