The October data was reported by the Automotive Trade Association of Uruguay (ACAU)which recorded some 5,637 units sold, 15% higher than what was recorded in October 2022.


In the breakdown, a 12% year-on-year drop is seen in one of the main categories, passenger cars. However, the sale of utility vehicles grew by 68% compared to the same period of the previous year, and positively boosted the total figure for the month.
The current sales dynamics of new vehicles predict that the year 2023 will be one of the best in recent times, and that it would only be behind what was the transaction record of 2013.
So far this year, between cars, SUVs and utility vehicles, 45,636 units have already been shipped by dealerships, that is, 21% more than sold during the same period last year. Among the main factors for the increase in sales, a price of the dollar wholesaler that remains retracted behind the 40 peso range, as well as an increase in real salary.
