The victim has died after a teenager shot a classmate in the southern German city of Offenburg. The minor died of his serious injuries in hospital, the police and public prosecutor’s office in the Baden-Württemberg city said on Thursday. The suspected perpetrator, who was the same age, was taken into custody on Thursday evening. The investigators assume a “personal motive” for the crime.
The suspect entered a classroom at lunchtime, approached his classmate who was sitting at the time of the crime and then shot him at least once with a handgun, investigators said. “As a result, he suffered the most serious injuries,” it said in a statement. The police then received several emergency calls. A man who happened to be there then held the young person until the police arrived.

15-year-old in custody
The 15-year-old was taken into custody on Thursday, the investigative authority said. The motive for the attack is likely to be personal. As a police spokesman near the crime scene added, initial findings indicate that there was a previous relationship between the alleged perpetrator and his victim.
According to police, around 180 students were taken out of school. The young people were looked after by trained staff and were then able to go to their parents, the police said. Offenburg is located in the state of Baden-Württemberg.
Special education facility
According to its own information, the school in question is a special education and advisory center with a focus on learning. Pupils are taught in 15 classes.
