This year, the preliminary round of the Sparkasse Football Student League in the Perg district was more balanced and close than it has been for a long time. Nine teams played no fewer than 26 preliminary round games over two tournament days. The fight for the first four places in the table, which means a place in the semi-finals, was extremely exciting.
The Baumgartenberg middle school, under supervisor Dietmar Hiesl, was taking part in the competition for the first time in many years and had an all-round successful start. At the end of the tournament, the Machländer were able to celebrate third place in the table. In the spring of 2024, they will challenge the Perg City Center Middle School in the semifinals, which secured second place in the preliminary round tournament. Supervisor Paul Grabner put his troops in an excellent tactical position. With the result that his team only conceded one goal in the entire tournament.
This year, the team from the Bad Kreuzen sports middle school, coached by Matthias Froschauer, once again emerged as favorites for the title. The first place in the preliminary round was only due to the slightly better goal difference compared to the Perg city center middle school. In the semi-finals, Bad Kreuzen will face the Europagymnasium Baumgartenberg in the spring – a repeat of this year’s final. With all his coaching routine, Harald Kirchmayr led the Eurogym foals to fourth place in the table.
There was also a lot of joy in the achievements of the other school teams from Naarn (supervisor Mario Holzer), Ried in der Riedmark (Bernhard Strasser), Mauthausen (Florian Dollhäubl), Schwertberg (Thomas Wöckinger) and Pabneukirchen (Patrick Uhl). “There were an extremely large number of games on a knife’s edge this year and the balanced level of all teams is also evidence of the great youth work being done in the clubs in the Perg district,” says student league coordinator Matthias Froschauer.
As volunteer referees, Gerhard Festbauer, Norbert Haslhofer and Herbert Wenigwieser led the 36 games played very carefully and fairly. The next competition on the program is the Sparkasse Futsal Cup in the Perg district sports hall on Wednesday, November 29th, for which a total of 12 school teams have registered.
