FC Blau-Weiß fans streamed en masse across the New Railway Bridge over the Danube before the start of the game today. They had gathered on the north bank to move together to their new stadium on the Donaulände. The atmosphere was great: For the first time since 1997, Blau-Weiß is hosting the Bundesliga derby against LASK. “You can’t miss it, the atmosphere is unique,” says Franz Wögerer, who has been a loyal Blue and White supporter for decades.

From midday onwards, the passionate supporters were drawn to the new stadium. There was gossiping, cheering and one or two fan chants in front of the stadium. Harald Lehner said it was clear to him that the competition was tough: “But we always support our club; Blue and White has the better fans.” The stadium is expected to be fully occupied and tickets will be completely sold out by the end of October.
Police: Situation calm
According to Linz city police commander Karl Pogutter, the situation is also calm: “So far everything is fine,” he said shortly before kick-off. The fan clubs were led to the stadium from different sides to avoid conflicts. There had previously been fears that there could be clashes between the supporters of the two clubs. The police are constantly monitoring the situation.
