At around 11 a.m., a car hit a truck, causing it to lose a large amount of oil, which was spread over the entire road. A backlog quickly developed, which triggered another collision around half an hour later: a 32-year-old Czech man crashed his van in the direction of Vienna into the rear of a tractor-trailer driven by a 55-year-old Bulgarian.
The motorway had to be closed to all traffic for around two hours and the accident site could not be cleared until 1.30 p.m. According to ASFINAG, at peak times the traffic jam stretched 15 kilometers, on the A1 to Allhaming and on the A25 to Marchtrenk. Rush hour traffic was also affected by the accidents: the highway was overloaded until Wednesday evening, ASFINAG said in response to OÖN’s request.
The Bulgarian was injured in the accident but refused a ride to the hospital.
