Mühlviertler Bar stormed into the top of the OÖN delicacies selection with its regional burger variant

Bar food can definitely be something of high quality. Provided it is prepared with care and the right – preferably regional – ingredients. This is exactly what the Schwertberg music bar “Tschebbarwoggi” proved in this year’s OÖNachrichten delicacy selection. With its hearty “Tschebbab”, Chris Schatz’s restaurant won the public vote in the Mühlviertel region.

“As a music bar, we naturally have a manageably large menu. But when people leave, they don’t just want drinks, they also want something to get their teeth into,” says Tschebbarwoggi boss Chris Schatz. “But if you do something smart, then people accept it. I have some guests who come to me mainly because of the chebbab – and of course because of the good music that I play in the restaurant.” The idea for a regional, delicious version of a burger came to the Schwertberg restaurateur in 2012, immediately after he took over the bar in the center of Schwertberg. “I’m a trained baker. That’s why I bake the buns for the chebbab myself. I also buy the other ingredients, especially the mixed minced meat, from regional suppliers.

The burger named after the restaurant soon became the flagship of Tschebbarwoggi. During the Corona lockdown, the chebbab was also available as a takeaway version, says Schatz: “That has continued to this day. Families also keep coming in for a round of chebbab right after the restaurant opens at 5 p.m. The Tschebbarwoggi relies on retro style. Style, both in the furnishings and in the music selection, which “DJ Chris” selects himself according to, as he himself says, “the highest quality criteria” outside the usual chart paths. Entertainment is also offered by events such as the pub – which has been fully booked for weeks -Quiz next Thursday. Darts is also often played in Tschebbarwoggi. Also by league teams that hold training sessions and matches here.

The chebbab recipe:

Burger buns – are made in-house at Tschebbarwoggi
Form the mixed minced meat (two thirds beef, one third pork) into patties and grill
Onion, cucumber slices, a leaf of lettuce, cheese
Served with fries or salad
When it comes to size, make sure that you can still eat the chebbab by hand, without cutlery or plates.
